When the car wash becomes artistic

In Atlanta it is possible to contemplate art while enjoying a car wash.

The Westside Mural Project, a collaboration between the West End restaurant Lean Draft House and the artist Letter 75 (aka Michael Jones), is a very interesting project at the Clean Moto Carwash in Atlanta.

The project, which began June 21 with a three-day painting event, has recruited 14 artists based in Atlanta to paint the interior walls of the car wash. The result is an eclectic mural gallery that car wash customers can enjoy while washing their vehicles.

Each artist was given the opportunity to paint two internal 20x9 walls. Participating artists include Joe Dreher, Philip Harris, William Downs, Lacey Longino, C Flux, Matthew Evans, Jagua, TJ Sander, Larkin Ford, Aaron Putt, Xenia Aims, Jacob O Kelly, Lewis Foster, Krista Clark and Michael Jones. One of the car wash coves was intended for members of the public to allow them to try their hand at mural painting alongside artists.

The idea for the project came from the owners of Lean Draft House, located next to the car wash, and from Jones, who was visiting the restaurant.

"My goal was to create spaces that interact with the public," says Jones. "I hope someone falls in love with work so much that when you leave, you think his car is still dirty."
